Flood mentoring project: Big thanks to the Wirth Foundation!

The mentoring projects of the Kinderschutzbund Ahrweiler will be expanded this year to include the "flood mentors" section. The non-profit association, which has been committed to improving the living conditions of children and young people, parents and families since 1991, is supported by an extremely generous donation  from the Wirth Foundation - thank you very much! 

In the mentoring projects, committed people volunteer part of their free time to help a family. They relieve and support families who are temporarily in a difficult situation and cannot rely on a social network.

Currently, about 60 trained family and integration mentors are active in accompanying families with increased need for support in the district of Ahrweiler. Since the flood disaster in July 2021, the mentoring projects with the "flood mentors" have become even more important. Thanks to the financial help of the Wirth Foundation, the Kinderschutzbund Ahrweiler was able to complete a mentor training course last month, in which people looking for a fulfilling and meaningful commitment were thoroughly prepared for their work as flood mentors. During the sponsorship, the volunteers will find a professional and responsive contact person for all their questions and any challenges that may arise in the social pedagogue in charge of the project.

Monika Hunger, head of the mentoring projects, is pleased that there are already suitable requests for the new mentors. And mentors who have been on the team for a long time and have themselves been hit by the flood are already helping families again.

The demand for flood mentors continues to increase noticeably, so that new committed people are urgently to be inspired for this honorary office. A new mentor training course is already being planned.
